Task Force: ENDA ‘reflects core U.S. value of fairness’
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund applauds today’s Senate introduction of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would protect against workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The measure was introduced by Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.). The House version was introduced in late June.
Human Rights Campaign Condemns Israeli LGBT Center Shooting
Late Saturday evening, during a youth meeting at the Aguda LGBT community center headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, a masked gunman opened fire on a teen support group, killing two and injuring at least 15 more. The two murdered youth were ages 17 and 26. Most teens who participate in the Aguda’s youth support program do so because they have been ostracized by their families and faith community for their sexual orientation or gender identity making this attack all the more painful. The shooter has not yet been apprehended by Israeli police.
Prosecutors dropping charges against gay couple accused of trespassing on LDS Property
The Empowering Spirits Foundation (ESF), a national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization today applauded Salt Lake City prosecutors for dropping trespassing charges against Derek Jones and Matt Aune. The gay couple was arrested earlier this month by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) security guards for alleged trespassing. The incident occurred after they exchanged a kiss on Main Street Plaza in Salt Lake City, Utah.
ESF releases letter to Mormon Church regarding kiss-in
The Empowering Spirits Foundation (ESF), a national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, made public the letter sent by the ESF to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) at the request of various media outlets. The letter, sent July 20th, announces the Love Unites Kiss-In, to be held at the San Diego Mormon Temple in an attempt by the ESF to meet with LDS church leaders in an effort to engage in respectful dialogue regarding LGBT issues.

The Empowering Spirits Foundation (ESF), a national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, will hold the Love Unites Kiss-In at the San Diego Mormon Temple, Wednesday, July 22nd from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. The kiss-in is meant to serve as a peaceful rally to encourage dialogue between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) and LGBT activists following the recent arrest of Matt Aune and Derek Jones. The gay couple was arrested by LDS security guards when they exchanged a kiss on Main Street Plaza in Salt Lake City, Utah.
