The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – last Wednesday praised Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest private employer, for adding gender identity and expression to its employment non-discrimination policy. The company’s nondiscrimination policy already included sexual orientation.

GLAAD Returns to Neutral Stance on AT&T/T-Mobile Merger
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today submitted a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to withdraw its support for the pending AT&T merger with T-Mobile and to return the organization to a neutral position with respect to the deal. GLAAD also submitted to the FCC, in the same letter, a statement strongly supporting the tenets of net neutrality. Today’s letter was filed by Mike Thompson, GLAAD’s Acting President following extensive discussion among GLAAD leadership and supporters.

MEPs welcome Lithuania’s new progressive law on advertising
A new Law on the Provision of Information to the Public came into force on 30 June, outlawing discrimination based on sexual orientation. Previous drafts of the law had included a ban on mentioning homosexuality, but the Lithuanian Parliament made a volte-face and rejected these proposals.
HRC Joins Tennessee’s Business Community in Opposition to Anti-Gay SB 632/HB 600
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, and Tennessee’s major businesses are united in opposition to SB 632/HB 600, which prohibits cities and counties from banning discriminatory practices by any means and passed the state legislature earlier this week. The bill, endorsed by the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce, denies local units of government the opportunity to decide if discrimination is wrong.
TLA Entertainment Sells Its Film Releasing Division to Producer Derek Curl
TLA Entertainment Group, Inc. today announced that Derek Curland investors have purchased a controlling 75 percent interest in the parent company’s filmdistribution division, TLA Releasing. The sale includes both its domestic operations in North America as well as its United Kingdom subsidiary. Curl will become the President and Chief Executive Officer of TLA Releasing, a newly formed LLC.
